Story of discovery of cell, the basic unit of life takes us to the year 1665, when Robert Hooke, an English polymath, was examining a thin slice of cork using a microscope. Hooke saw that the cork resembled the structure of a honeycomb, consisting of many little compartments, and he named these boxes as Cells. This was very important discovery in the history of science as was the very first time that someone had observed that living things appear to consist of separate units.
